Playdemic approahed us for a global app PR and marketing campaign

Overview

Created by Manchester-based Playdemic, Gang Nations is a blend of tower defence, strategy and explosive combat, putting the player in control of their own ‘hood’ which they must build up and defend from attacks- whilst recruiting their own gang to carry out raids on other players.

Playdemic was looking for a PR and marketing agency with global app marketing experience for a quick-turnaround campaign, after they found out the game was going to be featured by Apple in less than 2 weeks time.

What we did

Ahead of the launch we organised 1:1 briefings with influential media outlets including Slide to Play, Develop and Gamezebo in the VIP room at MGF 2015 for Playdemic’s CEO Paul Gouge. As well as helping Playdemic with app store optimisation, we reached out to a large list of media to review the game. We also took over the Gang Nations Twitter page for two weeks to boost its follower count and increase engagement. Finally, we felt that the game needed a bit of 90’s style West Coast love, so we hired a US rapper to create a unique 30 second rap about the game that we sent to the media to help raise our media pitching above the competition.

The Results

To date, Gang Nations has reached the no.1 slot in 24 countries and top 5 in 123 countries on the Apple app store. The game also received a prominent global feature on the App Store homepage.

The game was reviewed by major media including PocketGamer and 148 Apps. We also increased the Twitter follower count significantly, with 1-2 hours of daily tweets and retweets to boost the engagement rates.
