The B2B games industry information landscape is evolving. Dedicated news sites are getting smaller. A new ecosystem is forming as topic-specific newsletters and reports are stepping in to fill the gap.
These newsletters and reports are essential for insights into key topics. They offer detailed insights on news, investments, Steam marketing, AI, government policy, design, music, and more.
Here’s our alphabetical list of the best games industry newsletters and reports to subscribe to in 2025.
AI & Games
Produced by Tommy Thompson of the AI and Games consultancy, this newsletter offers accessible deep-dives and hype-free analysis into the research and application of artificial intelligence within video game development. It targets developers, researchers, and enthusiasts interested in the technical aspects of game AI.
AI Gamechangers
AI Gamechangers is a weekly newsletter covering the practical uses of artificial intelligence in the games industry. It’s written by experts with decades of experience, including market-leading sites like Pocket Gamer.
Ampere Analysis
These reports, featuring insight from analysts like Piers Harding-Rolls and Louise Wooldridge, provide quantitative, data-intensive insights into game and market performance. They focus on key metrics like player activity and spending across major platforms, which are crucial for competitive intelligence and market monitoring.
Alinea Analytics
Alinea’s platform is packed with data on game sales – an excellent source of free insight into key trends. It’s written by experienced ex-Newzoo Games Marketing Analyst Rhys Elliott so you’re in very safe hands. The newsletter gives you insights into:
- Weekly, monthly, and quarterly top 10 for copies sold on Steam and PlayStation and engagement data across PC, Xbox and Steam, based on accurate and benchmarked estimates
- Deep dives into the biggest releases, with data available right after launch
- Upcoming games to watch based on pre-launch metrics and buzz
- Alinea’s hot – and sometimes spicy – takes on the latest industry news
Between Music and Gaming
(Nice logo to be added when we have one!)
We love a niche newsletter, and from the title of this one, it’ll come as no surprise that creator Kenny Vaughan gives his weekly analysis on “areas where music & gaming meet, with a focus on generating original ideas of how things could be done differently, in my opinion.” Kenny’s passion for both games and music mirrors that of Mat Ombler’s excellent MusicEXP newsletter (see below), and he even claims to have “predicted a fair few trends ahead of the curve, including music in Fortnite back in 2017 as well as specific label partnerships ahead of their release”. Oooh Kenny- get you!
Crossplay
If you’re interested in exploring the relationship between parenting and video games, Crossplay by Patrick Klepek is an excellent resource. The newsletter combines Klepek’s professional expertise with his experiences as a father of two. It features a mix of reporting, personal insights, and analysis on topics such as navigating platforms like Roblox, age-appropriate content, and game design relevant to children. The newsletter is often enhanced by Patrick’s “Spawnpoint” podcast with Keza McDonald, Video Games Editor at The Guardian.

Authored by ex-Axios veteran games journalist Stephen Totilo, Game File is an independent newsletter that delivers original reporting, scoops, and analysis on the business and culture of video games. It appeals to readers seeking reliable news and insightful commentary directly from a seasoned, trusted source. Stephen is the closest the games industry gets to Woodward and Bernstein, digging deep to uncover the real stories of interest in the global games industry.
GameDiscoverCo
This newsletter from Simon Carless and his GameDiscoverCo agency concentrates on how players discover and buy PC and console games, with a strong emphasis on Steam. It provides specialised analysis, data tools, and insights valuable for developers and publishers focused on market visibility and discoverability. The quality of Simon’s insight is so good and rich with data and insight that it leaves us in awe of how he does it so well and consistently.
GameDev Reports
Curated by Dmitriy Byshonkov, GameDev Reports is an efficient aggregator that summarises key data, market reports, and significant news from numerous sources across the mobile, PC, and console gaming sectors. It’s a time-saving resource for staying updated on industry statistics and research findings.
Game Developer
The artist formerly known as Gamasutra has shed its vaguely dirty-sounding name in favour of a much more functional one that does what it says on the tin/packet. Game Developer is a B2B resource focusing on the art, craft, and business of video game development. Closely linked with the Game Developers Conference (GDC), it provides news, analysis, post-mortems, and community features for professional game developers across all disciplines.
Games Opportunities
Games Opportunities, created by industry veteran Colin McDonald, serves as a valuable resource rather than simply an insightful newsletter. Its mission is to provide readers with a monthly overview of significant job opportunities in the video games industry during these challenging times. Although it’s an outlier in this list, we still felt Colin’s sterling efforts deserved an honourable mention.
GamesBeat
Newly independent B2B games news site, GamesBeat (having just announced its spin-off from VentureBeat), is the 800lb gorilla of the global video games industry B2B news websites and the #1 site clients want us to get them onto. Helmed by hard-working, super-connected editor Dean Takahashi, GamesBeat covers the intersection of the video game industry, technology, and entertainment. It focuses on business and technology, including trends, innovations (like AI and AR/VR), funding, and M&A, targeting industry decision-makers, investors, developers, and tech enthusiasts. The brand is also known for its industry events like GamesBeat Summit.
GamesIndustry.biz
Although it has undergone painful editorial changes, Gi.biz remains a solid choice for the latest daily musings on the global games industry. It provides daily news, analysis, market data (particularly for the UK and Europe ), interviews, and global video game industry job listings. Its newsletters, including the GI Daily, deliver key insights to industry professionals.
Game Maker’s Toolkit Digest
The Game Maker’s Toolkit (GMTK) Digest is a premium monthly newsletter curated and written by Mark Brown, the creator of the widely respected YouTube channel Game Maker’s Toolkit, which is known for its insightful analyses of game design. It’s designed to be an ad-free, corporate interference-free digest of smart analysis delivered directly to your inbox. Hit Points is free to subscribe to, with an optional monthly or annual subscription for those who want to support Nathan’s work. Paid subscribers receive at least one additional post per week and have access to the occasional interview series Max HP.
Ignition Zeitgeist
Ignition Zeitgeist is a newsletter created by London-based creative agency Ignition (no shock there, really) and positions itself as “a handy resource for staying ahead of the cultural curve, covering the latest trends in entertainment, tech and marketing.” We like this newsletter because, whereas all the others on this list are 100% focused on the video games industry, Ignition Zeitgeist also looks at wider entertainment, such as movies and TV, and even where games intersect with these industries.

It covers investment trends, funding activity, market analysis, and strategic opportunities relevant to founders, investors, and industry executives. Konvoy also produces quarterly industry investment reports.
MCV/Develop
Unless we’re very much mistaken, MCV Develop is the longest-running B2B trade publication and has been running since 1998, when a large chunk of its readership was likely still in school or had not even been considered. MCV/Develop is a UK-based trade publication from Biz Media, focusing on the business aspects of the video game industry. Formerly MCV and incorporating Develop magazine, it provides monthly news, analysis, data, and events like the MCV/Develop Awards for industry professionals, including developers, publishers, retailers, and service providers.
Mindgame Data
This newsletter looks at data-based trends using impactful, easy-to-decipher visuals (a bit like our fave coffee table book, Information is Beautiful by David McCandless). We especially like the slightly crazy Market Mind visualisation of the most popular and fastest growing games, so publishers and developers can see how much MindSHARE (their words- not ours) their game is capturing.
Mobilegamer.biz
Created by ex-Future Publishing Editor Neil Long, the Mobilegamer.biz newsletter offers news, interviews, and analysis tailored specifically for the mobile games business. It’s a key resource for developers, publishers, and investors operating within the mobile gaming ecosystem. Rather than focusing on news and announcements, Mobilegamer tends to drill down more into features and interviews about the business of mobile games.
MusicEXP
Full confession, experienced journalist Mat Ombler has worked with us here at BGM for several years now, and we can confidently say that nobody knows more about music and video games than he does. MusicEXP explores the intersection of the music and video game industries. The newsletter covers trends, partnerships, licensing opportunities, virtual concerts, and artist integrations within gaming.
Naavik Digest
We’re big fans of consulting firm Naavik, which is a bit of a content machine. The Naavik Digest delivers in-depth insights and strategic deconstructions of game design, business models, and company strategies within the games industry. But don’t limit yourself. We’d also recommend you listen to the Naavik Podcast and sign up for their epically long and detailed Deep Dives.
Newzoo
Pretty much everyone in the games industry knows research powerhouse Newzoo, and for good reason, as it regularly provides generous and detailed insight. Newzoo’s resources offer comprehensive global games market data, forecasts, and trend analysis across PC, console, and mobile. The widely cited free reports are foundational for understanding market scale, growth, and significant industry shifts.

Niko also publishes a wealth of free research, so be sure to take a look.

This LinkedIn-exclusive newsletter, created by Streamforge co-founder Nick Lombardi, provides valuable insights. It focuses on high-profile games and examines the influencers who were engaged, along with their respective budgets. The posts detail the budget breakdown for each platform, distinguish between paid and organic promotions, list the creators involved, and analyse where the best return on investment (ROI) was achieved.
SuperJoost Playlist
Authored by Business professor and Author Dr. Joost van Dreunen, this weekly newsletter reviews developments in technology and entertainment through the specific lens of the video games business. It provides thoughtful, strategic analysis connecting current events to broader economic trends and business strategy. We also strongly recommend reading Joost’s superbly informative State of Play report, which he presented at SXSW in March 2025.
The Game Business
GamesIndustry.biz alumnus Chris Dring fronts this new kid on the block in partnership with Geoff Keighley, CEO of The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest. The Game Business provides market insights, data analysis, coverage of industry trends, and exclusive interviews related to the global video game business. The content, delivered via a newsletter and twice-weekly video podcasts/interviews, covers game sales, platform analysis, distribution, monetisation practices, policy changes, and shifting player behaviours.
The Daily Download
We would be remiss if we didn’t mention our cherished newsletter. With the surge of newsletters in the games industry, we recognised that staying updated on the latest developments can be overwhelming. That’s why we created the BGM Daily Download—a concise and easy-to-read summary of the most fascinating happenings in the global video games industry, delivered fresh to your inbox daily. If a daily update is too frequent, consider subscribing to our Weekly Download on LinkedIn.
Video Games Industry Memo
There’s a very good reason why this newsletter has garnered over 5,000 subscribers in a short period of time. Created by the increasingly omnipotent George Osborn of Half-Space Consulting, it explains the interplay of policy, commercial, cultural, and political forces shaping the video games sector. VGIM offers unique insights into regulatory landscapes, public perception, and the industry’s societal influence and is all wrapped up in George’s distinct and highly readable style.
Video Game Insights (by Sensor Tower)
Now owned by industry intelligence behemoth Sensor Tower, Video Game Insights gives users Access to sales estimates, wishlists, prices, ratings, genres and much more for over 150,000 Steam games. In recent months, Video Game Insights also launched competitive intelligence for Xbox and PlayStation. Although there isn’t a dedicated newsletter for VGI, it’s worth following the company on LinkedIn for the latest updates, as there are good reports, such as one on the importance of Wishlists.
